“Bigger is better.” Bigger certainly is what’s in store for the 2008 Infiniti QX56. Holding a colossal grille and chrome 20-inch wheels are just a glimpse of the improved model. Bringing it more in line with other top, large luxury SUVs, the QX56 gains a notable interior redesign and additional standard and optional features.

The 17-foot-long Infiniti Q56 has xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights, a power liftgate and front and rear parking sensors. Available in rear- or four-wheel drive, standard equipment also includes a power-folding third-row seat, leather upholstery, keyless start, navigation system, and Bluetooth connectivity for the 12-speaker Bose audio system with a 9.3-gigabyte hard drive.

The five-speed automatic transmission is powered with a 5.6-liter V-8 engine that produces 320 horsepower; up to 393 pounds-feet of torque. Maximum towing capacity, if properly equipped, is up to 9,000 pounds. Taking into account how large this SUV is, the QX56 is able to hit 60 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds. The extended power presents poor gas mileage of 12 miles per gallon in the city, 17/19 on the highway.

The improved real wood trim and soft leather trim lavishes the interior. With much less cargo space than its near competitors, the 2008 Infiniti QX56 is quite roomy for large families. An optional feature is an 8-inch DVD entertainment system.

Complimentary safety precautions are antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags, stability control and a reverse parking sensors and a rearview monitor.
